Enerlife Job Board

Senior Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Lead

Description

At Enerlife Consulting, we work closely with hospitals, institutional and private sector clients to improve building performance in practical, measurable ways. Our approach begins with how building systems operate day to day — air handling systems, hydronic distribution, central plants, controls, ventilation strategies, sequencing, and capital upgrades. From there, we help clients strengthen performance immediately while planning thoughtful, long-term decarbonization pathways.

We are looking for a proven Senior Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Lead to work primarily in healthcare but also across other institutional portfolios in Canada and the US. We are looking for someone who has a strong foundation in the design and operation of mechanical building systems. You possess the experience, curiosity and ingenuity to join our ongoing exploration of high-performance buildings and are excited to contribute to our continuing development of hands-on services, processes and tools to make every building the best it can be. You are equally comfortable on site, in a design office, leading project teams and in meetings with clients and contractors.

This role is ideal for someone at a career inflection point with opportunity for growth into advising senior leadership on capital and decarbonization strategy, leading research initiatives, shaping performance standards, mentoring developing engineers and informing company strategy.

What you’ll do

Technical direction
Combine technical depth with leadership of client relationships, requiring creativity, sound judgement and steady project direction.

  • Lead technical teams in recommissioning and system optimization initiatives in complex facilities. This includes reviewing system intent, assessing operational performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and working collaboratively with client teams to implement practical solutions.
  • Guide client and team conversations on ventilation performance, central plant optimization, heat recovery, controls strategies, and energy intensity that include connecting operational findings to capital planning and long-term transition decisions.

Client and team development
Lead and develop collaborative, accountable relationships with clients and colleagues including:

  • Lead meetings with facility teams, consultants, and senior stakeholders
  • Communicate technical issues clearly and constructively
  • Have primary responsibility for project progress and deliverables
  • Address project challenges and persevere

Strategic direction to tools and processes
As we develop and adapt advanced analytics and AI-supported tools, use critical thinking and systems understanding to help guide the development of tools and processes.

  • Contribute engineering perspective to tool design
  • Help ensure output reflects realistic system behaviour
  • Ask critical questions when interpreting data
  • Support the translation of analytics into practical decision-making

What you bring

A strong understanding of mechanical system behaviour and comfortable discussing air systems, hydronic systems, central plants, and controls within complex facilities. Your experience may come from:
  • Healthcare or institutional design
  • Facility operations or plant leadership
  • Commissioning or system performance optimization
P.Eng designation (or in the process of achievement)
5–10+ years of experience in healthcare or institutional facilities
Experience with system upgrades, commissioning, retrofits, or capital renewal projects
Comfort working with performance data and system metric
Clear and professional communication skills
A collaborative leadership style
Located in greater Toronto area or southern Ontario
